Rim polishing & repair
Kerbed alloys are almost inevitable in a city of tight multi-storey car parks and high kerbs. We repair kerb damage, treat corrosion and restore the finish — which also matters functionally, because corrosion at the bead seat is a common cause of slow punctures.
Do you need this?
Worth doing for cosmetic kerb damage, and worth doing sooner rather than later where corrosion has started, because corrosion spreads under the lacquer and eventually causes air leaks.
Signs to look for
- Kerb scuffs on the rim edge
- White powdery corrosion on the wheel face or bead seat
- Lacquer peeling or flaking
- A slow puncture that keeps returning on the same wheel
What we actually do
Step by step, so you know what you are paying for.
The tyre is removed so the whole rim can be worked on, including the bead seat.
Damage is assessed — we check for cracks or buckling, which are structural and not merely cosmetic.
Damaged areas are prepared and filled where needed.
The wheel is refinished to match the original.
Lacquer is applied and cured.
The tyre is refitted, balanced and pressure-tested.
Included in the price
- Tyre removal and refitting
- Damage assessment including crack inspection
- Refinish and lacquer
- Rebalancing
- 5% VAT
Nothing is added at the counter. If we find something unexpected, we tell you the cost and wait for you to agree before doing it.
Questions we get asked
Can a cracked alloy wheel be repaired?
Sometimes, but it depends entirely on where the crack is. A crack in the barrel may be weldable; a crack through a spoke or the mounting face generally means the wheel should be replaced. We assess and tell you honestly — a wheel failing at speed is not a risk worth taking to save money.
Why does corrosion on my rim cause a flat tyre?
The tyre bead seals against the rim by pressing on a smooth machined surface. Corrosion makes that surface pitted and uneven, so air escapes slowly through the gaps. It presents as a slow puncture that keeps coming back on the same wheel no matter how many times the tyre is checked.
