Wheel balancing
A wheel and tyre assembly is never perfectly uniform. Balancing adds small counterweights so the assembly spins without vibration. If your steering wheel shakes at a particular speed and settles again above it, balancing is almost always the answer.
Do you need this?
Have wheels balanced whenever a tyre is fitted or removed, and any time you develop a vibration. Vibration that appears through the steering wheel usually indicates the front wheels; vibration felt through the seat usually indicates the rear.
Signs to look for
- Steering wheel vibration at a specific speed band, typically 90–120 km/h
- Vibration through the seat or floor rather than the wheel
- Vibration that appeared right after new tyres were fitted elsewhere
- A missing balance weight visible on the rim
What we actually do
Step by step, so you know what you are paying for.
Wheels are removed and mounted on the balancing machine one at a time.
The machine spins each assembly and measures the imbalance and its position.
Existing weights are removed and the rim is cleaned where new ones will sit.
Correct weights are applied — clip-on for steel rims, adhesive for alloys so the finish is not damaged.
Each wheel is re-spun to confirm it reads within tolerance.
Wheels are refitted and torqued to specification.

Questions we get asked
My steering shakes at 100 km/h — is that balancing?
Almost certainly. Vibration that appears in a specific speed band and eases off above it is the classic signature of an out-of-balance front wheel. Vibration that gets steadily worse with speed and never eases is more likely a bent rim or a damaged tyre.
Do balance weights fall off?
Adhesive weights can come loose over time, particularly if the rim was not cleaned properly before fitting or if the wheel is regularly pressure-washed. If a vibration appears suddenly, a lost weight is one of the first things worth checking.
