Tesla tyres and servicing in Dubai

A Model Y weighs about the same as a mid-size SUV and delivers all its torque from a standstill, so it eats rear tyres and needs a tyre with the right load index rather than whatever fits the rim. Most Teslas here also came on foam-lined acoustic tyres, which changes how a puncture is repaired and balanced. We do tyres, brakes, alignment and suspension. High-voltage work we leave alone.

Common Tesla tyre sizes

  • 235/45R18 (Model 3 Aero)
  • 255/45R19 (Model Y Gemini)
  • 255/35R21 (Model Y Performance)
  • 245/45R19 (Model S)
  • 265/45R20 (Model X)

Always check the placard inside your driver’s door — trim levels and wheel options change the size, and a previous owner may have fitted something different.

The T0, T1, T2 marking on Tesla tyres

Tesla-specific sidewall codes on tyres developed for particular models, usually with an acoustic foam liner and lower rolling resistance.

We will tell you whether the tyre we are quoting carries the marking or not, and what the practical difference is. Some drivers reasonably choose a non-marked tyre to save money — that is a decision you should get to make knowingly.

Worth knowing in UAE conditions

  • Kerb weight plus instant torque shreds rear tyres, and a Model Y Performance can be at the wear bars on the rear axle while the fronts still look nearly new.
  • Foam-lined acoustic tyres cannot be plugged from the outside in the usual way and sealant ruins the foam, so the repair has to be done properly from inside.
  • Rear camber on Model 3 and Y wears the inside shoulder away quietly, and a single kerb strike in a car park is enough to put it out.
  • The low-voltage battery is worked hard by cabin overheat protection and sentry mode through a Dubai summer, and it tends to fail with very little warning.
