GermanyOpel tyres and servicing in Dubai
Opel is a small presence in Dubai next to the Japanese mainstream, but Astras, Grandlands and Insignias are on the road and their owners need somewhere sensible to take them. The important thing to know is the split: anything from roughly 2018 onwards sits on Peugeot underpinnings with PSA engines, while older cars are GM. That changes the parts, the oil spec and the diagnostics.
Common Opel tyre sizes
- 205/55R16 (Astra)
- 225/45R17 (Astra)
- 225/55R18 (Grandland)
- 235/50R19 (Grandland)
- 245/45R18 (Insignia)
Always check the placard inside your driver’s door — trim levels and wheel options change the size, and a previous owner may have fitted something different.
Worth knowing in UAE conditions
- The 1.2 PureTech three-cylinder in the Grandland, Crossland and later Astra runs its timing belt inside the engine oil. The belt breaks down and the debris blocks the oil pickup. In this climate we would not leave it to the book interval - shorten the oil changes and have the belt looked at early.
- Radiator and condenser packs fill with sand and dust. On a car specified with a European cooling pack that shows up first as A/C that will not hold temperature in traffic, then as coolant temperature creeping up on a long motorway run.
- GM era Astra and Insignia have the familiar plastic thermostat housing and water pump leaks. Heat cycling at 45C ambient splits the plastic and the level goes down slowly enough that most people miss it until the gauge moves.
- Opels here often cover low mileage and sit outside in the sun. Sidewalls craze and the tyres fail the five-year age rule long before the tread wears out, so check the DOT date rather than the depth.
