MG carries a British badge but the cars are designed and built by SAIC in China, and the volume in the UAE has grown enormously. The ZS, HS and RX5 are everywhere on Dubai roads, a lot of them running as private hire or family second cars covering serious mileage. They are straightforward to work on and parts are increasingly easy to get, which makes them one of the cheaper modern cars to keep on the road here.

Always check the placard inside your driver’s door — trim levels and wheel options change the size, and a previous owner may have fitted something different.
Worth knowing in UAE conditions
- Original equipment tyres on the budget models are built to a price and go hard early in this heat - many owners are replacing them on age and cracking rather than tread depth
- High mileage private hire ZS and HS cars run their brakes and suspension hard in stop-start traffic, and front pads and discs wear far quicker than the service schedule suggests
- A/C condensers sit exposed at the front and pick up stone and sand damage on motorway runs, and a weak A/C in an MG is very often a slow leak at the condenser
- Battery and 12V electrical faults are common on cars left standing in the sun, and on the EV versions the cabin cooling load in summer noticeably cuts range
