Hondas are bought in Dubai for the reason they are bought anywhere: they last. The Civic and Accord are everywhere and the CR-V is one of the most common family cars on Sheikh Zayed Road. The engineering is sound, but the CVT gearboxes and the air conditioning both take a beating in this climate, and the servicing interval printed in the book was not written for a 45C summer.

Always check the placard inside your driver’s door — trim levels and wheel options change the size, and a previous owner may have fitted something different.
Worth knowing in UAE conditions
- The CVT in the Civic, CR-V and HR-V is the weak point here. Fluid that would comfortably last the book interval in Europe is cooked by stop-start traffic in a Dubai summer, and a shudder or a slip from rest is almost always fluid that was left far too long.
- Honda condensers sit right at the front and clog with sand and grit. Weak A/C on an Accord or CR-V is very often a blocked condenser rather than a gas leak, and it gets misdiagnosed constantly.
- Accord and Pilot on 18 and 20-inch wheels have very little sidewall to give. A Dubai pothole or a hard kerb tends to go straight through to a buckled rim rather than stopping at the tyre.
- Rear calipers on CR-V and Accord with the electric parking brake seize on cars that sit outside through the summer, and they need a scan tool to wind the pistons back rather than force.
