Chevrolet tyres and servicing in Dubai

Tahoes and Suburbans are a default family car here and Silverados do real work in the industrial areas. They are heavy, they sit on 20 and 22-inch wheels, and the small-block V8s spend a lot of their life idling with the A/C at full load. That combination is hard on tyres, brakes and cooling systems. We do all three, along with alignment and suspension on cars that live over speed bumps.

Common Chevrolet tyre sizes

  • 285/45R22 (Tahoe High Country)
  • 275/50R22 (Suburban)
  • 275/60R20 (Silverado)
  • 275/35R20 (Camaro SS rear)
  • 225/55R18 (Malibu)

Always check the placard inside your driver’s door — trim levels and wheel options change the size, and a previous owner may have fitted something different.

The TPC Spec marking on Chevrolet tyres

GM's Tire Performance Criteria number is printed on the sidewall of the original equipment tyres it signs off for a given model, covering load, ride and handling.

We will tell you whether the tyre we are quoting carries the marking or not, and what the practical difference is. Some drivers reasonably choose a non-marked tyre to save money — that is a decision you should get to make knowingly.

Worth knowing in UAE conditions

  • The 5.3 and 6.2 V8s run cylinder deactivation, and collapsed lifters after long spells idling in traffic are one of the bigger jobs we see on them.
  • Tahoes and Suburbans on 22-inch wheels have almost no sidewall left to absorb a speed bump, so bent rims and kerbed shoulders are routine here.
  • The 8-speed automatic is prone to torque converter shudder and heat shortens the fluid's useful life well before the interval on paper.
  • Rear discs on a car this heavy coming down off a flyover in summer traffic take real punishment, and glazed pads with a long pedal are a common complaint.
