SwedenVolvo tyres and servicing in Dubai
Volvos in Dubai are mostly XC90, XC60 and XC40, and they are heavier than they look - an XC90 is comfortably over two tonnes before you load it. Put that weight on a 20 or 21 inch wheel with a 40 or 45 profile tyre and you get quick front shoulder wear, hard kerb strikes and very little sidewall protecting the rim. Volvo also specifies its own OE tyre marking.
Common Volvo tyre sizes
- 235/60R18 (XC60)
- 255/45R19 (XC60)
- 255/45R20 (XC90)
- 275/40R21 (XC90)
- 235/55R18 (XC40)
Always check the placard inside your driver’s door — trim levels and wheel options change the size, and a previous owner may have fitted something different.
The VOL marking on Volvo tyres
A VOL-marked tyre is built to Volvo's own specification for that car, usually with a reinforced sidewall to carry the weight and, on some fitments, noise-absorbing foam inside the tread.
We will tell you whether the tyre we are quoting carries the marking or not, and what the practical difference is. Some drivers reasonably choose a non-marked tyre to save money — that is a decision you should get to make knowingly.
Worth knowing in UAE conditions
- Over two tonnes on a 40 or 45 profile means fast shoulder wear on the front tyres and almost nothing between a kerb and the rim.
- The optional four-corner air suspension on XC90 works its compressor hard in summer. Bags, the compressor and its dryer are heat-and-dust items here rather than mileage items.
- City Safety looks through a camera behind the windscreen. A cheap screen replacement in Dubai often means it never gets recalibrated, and the car will not complain loudly about it.
- The 2.0 Drive-E engines are compact and run hot in traffic. Coolant hoses, the thermostat housing and the crankcase ventilation system are what tend to let go here.

What we will send you to the dealer for

- City Safety camera and radar calibration, and airbag or restraint module work.
