Skodas are Volkswagen Group cars with a different badge and that is the useful thing to know about them. Kodiaq, Octavia and Superb run the same EA211 and EA888 turbo petrol engines and the same DSG gearboxes as their VW and Audi cousins, which means the same known weak points and the same service intervals. Parts are easy to source in Dubai and the mechanical work sits well within an independent garage.

Always check the placard inside your driver’s door — trim levels and wheel options change the size, and a previous owner may have fitted something different.
Worth knowing in UAE conditions
- The plastic thermostat housing and water pump on the 2.0 TSI is a known weak point and 45C ambient brings it forward. A small coolant weep in January is a roadside stop in July.
- DSG gearboxes do not enjoy Dubai traffic. The dry-clutch box on the smaller engines judders once it is hot, and the oil service interval on the wet-clutch boxes is worth taking seriously here rather than stretching.
- Direct injection with no port injection means carbon on the intake valves, and short air-conditioned city trips are the worst possible case for it. It shows up as a rough cold start and a lumpy idle.
- Low profile tyres on 18 and 19 inch wheels on Octavia and Superb pick up kerb and pothole damage easily, and these cars are noticeably sensitive to alignment afterwards.
