Mazda tyres and servicing in Dubai

Mazda has quietly become a common sight in Dubai, mostly CX-5 and CX-9, with the Mazda 6 and Mazda 3 behind them. They are well built and they drive better than most of their rivals, but the higher trims sit on 19 and 20-inch wheels with very little sidewall, and the Skyactiv engines are fussier about fuel and oil condition than the badge suggests.

Common Mazda tyre sizes

  • 225/65R17 (CX-5)
  • 225/55R19 (CX-5 GT)
  • 255/50R20 (CX-9)
  • 225/45R19 (Mazda 6)
  • 215/45R18 (Mazda 3)

Always check the placard inside your driver’s door — trim levels and wheel options change the size, and a previous owner may have fitted something different.

Worth knowing in UAE conditions

  • CX-5 GT and Mazda 6 on 19-inch wheels run very short sidewalls. Cracked alloys from potholes and community speed bumps are common, and are usually only found once the wheel is off and on the balancer chasing a vibration.
  • Skyactiv-G engines run high compression with direct injection, so carbon builds on the intake valves faster on the short stop-start trips most Dubai cars do. It shows as a rough idle and a flat throttle long before any warning light.
  • The i-stop system needs a specific high-spec battery. Heat shortens its life badly and a cheap replacement of the wrong type leaves i-stop faults and dashboard warnings that look far more serious than they are.
  • The CX-9 2.5 turbo pushes a lot of heat through a tight engine bay. Coolant and oil condition matter more here than the service book allows for, and heat-soaked oil is what takes turbos out early.
