Chery has gone from a rare sight to a common one in the space of a few years, mostly on the strength of the Tiggo range and the price. They are honest cars, but they are built to a budget and the parts that suffer first here are the ones exposed to heat: tyres, batteries, cooling and the A/C. The Tiggo 4, 7 and 8 Pro are the ones we see most.

Always check the placard inside your driver’s door — trim levels and wheel options change the size, and a previous owner may have fitted something different.
Worth knowing in UAE conditions
- The budget OE tyres are the first thing to give up here. Sidewall crazing and cracking often appears well before the tread is gone, and the five-year age limit is the real deadline rather than the wear bars.
- The A/C is asked to do a great deal on a car built to a price. Condensers block with dust, cabin filters clog quickly and the system runs at full load from May through October.
- The 1.5 and 1.6 turbo cars use a dual-clutch gearbox that gets hot in stop-start traffic and starts to judder from rest. Fluid condition matters more here than the book interval suggests.
- Dampers and bushes soften early on community speed bumps, and the soft OE brake pads fade and dust more than owners expect after a long run down Sheikh Zayed Road.
