BMW tyres and servicing in Dubai

Many BMWs are supplied on run-flat tyres and have no spare wheel at all, which changes what happens when you get a puncture and what your options are.

Common BMW tyre sizes

  • 225/45R18 (3 Series)
  • 275/40R20 (X5 rear)
  • 245/45R19 (5 Series)

Always check the placard inside your driver’s door — trim levels and wheel options change the size, and a previous owner may have fitted something different.

The marking on BMW tyres

The star marks a tyre developed specifically for BMW. On run-flat fitments in particular, the star version has a different sidewall construction from the standard tyre of the same size.

We will tell you whether the tyre we are quoting carries the marking or not, and what the practical difference is. Some drivers reasonably choose a non-marked tyre to save money — that is a decision you should get to make knowingly.

Worth knowing in UAE conditions

  • Run-flat tyres have stiff reinforced sidewalls and are considerably harder to fit without damage — they need a proper machine and an experienced fitter.
  • A run-flat that has been driven on while deflated must be replaced, not repaired, even if it looks undamaged.
  • Many BMWs run staggered fitments, with wider tyres on the rear than the front. They cannot be rotated front-to-back.
